CS30 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting

Course Content

This course consists of two modules Maintenance of the Chainsaw and On-site preparation and basic cross cutting . This course is a pre-requisite for all other short courses involving Chainsaw operation.

The course covers:

  • Risk assessment and emergency procedures
  • Routine operator maintenance of the chainsaw
  • Round timber cross-cutting techniques of pre-cut timber up to guide bar length

Assessment/Progression

Following the course, candidates will be assessed for NPTC Award in Chainsaw and Related Operations. This is a practical assessment. Tests are organised separately by NPTC and can be taken at College or on you own site. Tests take place on a separate day, test date will be confirmed at the start of the course. Candidates can progress on to Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm or on to the Award in Accessing a Tree Using a Rope and Harness Including Aerial Tree Rescue Operations
