About the course

This is a course for those wishing to train as teaching assistants in schools. During the course you will attend college or one of our community sites once a week, where you will build a portfolio of evidence which will consist of your assignments, reflective accounts and observations. There are 11 mandatory units along with regular tutorials to provide support, encourage you to reflect on your practice and collect evidence for your portfolio. During the course you will be visited at your placement regularly by a qualified, experienced assessor where she will observe your practical competency.

Assessment methods

Assessment of written evidence, portfolio based assessment and observation of knowledge, skills and behaviours within the workplace.

Entry requirements

You need to have secured a placement in a school of your choice.

Be able to support children in maths, English and ICT within the learning environment.

A clear enhanced DBS check – we can carry this out once you have enrolled.

You are expected to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills at Functional Skills level 1 or above.

An understanding of the basic verbs such as describe, explain and identify.
