Beauty Student Reaches WorldSkills UK Finals

In April 2025, the College entered a Beauty student into the prestigious WorldSkills UK competition. Following an internal selection process, Liv Leech was chosen to represent the College. At the time, Liv was studying Level 2 Beauty Therapy and was taught by Katie Churchill.

Stage One – Entry Submission

The first stage of the competition required competitors to submit photographic evidence of two treatments:

  • Face Mask – Competitors applied a masque to the face, neck and décolleté on a live model. The mask had to be opaque and clearly visible. Three photographs were submitted: a right-side view, a left-side view, and a front view, ensuring that the full face, neck, and décolleté were visible.

  • Classic Red Lip – Competitors created a bold, classic red lip using lip liner and lipstick. One photograph was submitted.

Entries were judged on:

  • Face Mask: even application, neatness and no product on surrounding areas

  • Classic Red Lip: clean, crisp application, evenness and symmetry

Photographs had to be clear, unedited and meet the submission requirements. Failure to do so could result in a zero score for that section.

Liv successfully passed this stage and was named a WorldSkills UK Qualifier.

Stage Two – Heats

As a qualifier, Liv was invited to compete in the heats at North Warwickshire & South Leicestershire College, Nuneaton Campus, on Friday 27 June 2025. Here, she competed against other candidates while performing three live treatments under competition conditions.

Stage Three – National Finals

Out of over 400 competitors nationwide, Liv progressed to the WorldSkills UK Finals, becoming one of just eight finalists, an outstanding achievement!

The Finals took place at Cardiff and Vale College, where Liv once again performed three live treatments on a client while being judged and graded by industry professionals. The awards ceremony was held the following day in Newport.

Although Liv did not place in the Gold, Silver or Bronze categories, we are incredibly proud of her dedication, professionalism and achievement in reaching the national finals.

This success marks an exciting milestone for the College, and we are pleased to confirm that WorldSkills UK competitions will now be a regular part of our annual programme, providing students with valuable opportunities to showcase their skills on a national stage.

Congratulations to Liv on this fantastic accomplishment.
