Adult Learner

We have a broad range of full time, part time and short courses – all designed to help you learn new skills, gain qualifications to enhance careers prospects or just discover something new

From entry level through to Higher Education, foundation degrees and professional qualifications, our courses are carefully designed to give you the skills employers need.

Our tutors have a wealth of industry experience which is supported by the state-of-the-art facilities available at our campuses.

We offer a number of courses to adults for FREE, as part of two government schemes. These give you the opportunity to train and gain valuable in-demand skills to help shape your future.

Watch this space: the full list for next year is currently being reviewed and will be updated for 23/24 soon.

With most of our full time programmes actually being only 3 days per week, we find that many of our adult learners are able to combine their studies with part time work.

We offer a wide range of part time and short courses, including courses for interest and leisure and legislative courses required for certain industries.

Returning to education after a break? We offer an Access to Higher Education course ideal for those wishing to progress to study at university level after taking a break from education. The course runs during family friendly hours and is an excellent way to make a new start.

We offer a variety of  Higher Education courses at HLC providing students with the opportunity to study locally, offering good value for money and increased flexibility for those with work or family commitments.

Course costs vary considerably, as only some receive a government subsidy. We strongly advise that prospective students call the College to confirm the latest costs. For further information visit our fees guidance page.

If you are concerned about course costs please visit our pages on financial support and fee reductions for adults.

You may want to consider an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply, your income isn’t taken into account and there is no credit check. You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over a certain amount. The amount is reviewed each year – check the government student loan pages for current advice.
