Meet Your Tutor: Dave Edwards

For Dave, learning is all about solving problems. Whether he’s developing software, tackling a bouldering route, restoring a house or teaching computer science, he loves finding creative solutions and understanding how things work.

At Ludlow Sixth Form College, Dave teaches A Level Computer Science and brings a wealth of experience to the classroom. Alongside his academic studies, he has worked on freelance software and app development projects, carried out data analysis using Python, and designed relational database systems using SQL. This experience enables him to show students how the concepts they learn in the classroom are applied across a wide range of careers and industries.

Dave’s academic journey reflects his passion for technology and lifelong learning. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Computing from The Open University, as well as a Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from Aberystwyth University. While studying, he particularly valued the people he met along the way, from the lifelong friendships formed at Aberystwyth to collaborating with students and professionals from across the UK and Europe through The Open University.

Outside of teaching, Dave enjoys taking on all kinds of projects and challenges. Over the years, he has worked on everything from brewery control systems and crossword-compiling software to web and mobile apps for dog agility enthusiasts. His love of problem-solving extends beyond computing too, whether he’s bouldering, renovating houses or exploring a completely new area of interest.

In fact, Dave describes himself as being interested in just about everything. This year, he’s been learning about mechanics and internal combustion engines and has recently completed his first engine and transmission removal and partial replacement. Ask him what he’ll be obsessed with next year, and even he doesn’t know the answer!

Fun fact: Inspired by a former student who went on to help discover the Higgs boson at CERN, Dave has recently started learning Further Mathematics. Proof that no matter your age or experience, there’s always something new to learn.
