This course is designed to address an increasing need for high-quality professional and technical education pathways at Levels 4 and 5, providing students with a clear line of sight to employment or progression to further higher education study.
Level 4 Higher National Certificate
Level 5 Higher National Diploma
These qualifications are confirmed by the Department for Education (DfE) as a ‘full and relevant’ early years educator.
(EYE) qualification as the core units allow coverage of the full Level 4 (in the HNC) and Level 5 (in the HND) EYE
requirements, and access to a range of employment opportunities in the sector.
HLNSC students who successfully complete this course can apply to the University of Worcester for a one-year top-up to a full degree. Applicants will receive a guaranteed conditional interview for the following courses: Integrated Working with Children & Families top-up, Teaching in Primary Education with QTS top-up.
The skills offered as part of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma can provide graduates with the opportunity to work in many different areas of the early years education, leadership and care sector. Below are some examples of job roles each qualification could lead to.

College assessed, holistic, formative and summative assessment methods are embedded through units to allow for arange of different learning styles. They support students in developing a greater depth of learning, embedding theskills-based requirements critical to their professional development and enabling students to engage meaningfullywith the employers they are placed with.
· Level 3 qualification in Children’s Play, Learning and Development (or a related subject)
· a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate
performance in more than one GCE subject.
· Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution

Students will need to show evidence of capability in English, certified achievement at CEFR B2 or above, including (but not limited to):
IELTS (Academic or General Training): overall score 5.5 or above
Pearson PTE Academic: overall score 51 or above
TOEFL iBT: overall score 72 or above
Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First (FCE) – Pass (Cambridge English Scale 160+)
GCSE English Language Grade 3+
or another externally assessed recognised English Language qualification explicitly benchmarked to CEFR B2.
