PART-TIME COURSES
Learners will explore a range of creative arts and crafts activities designed to develop artistic skills, confidence, and self-expression. The course may include drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, textiles, mixed media, and three- dimensional artwork. Learners will experiment with different materials and techniques, develop their creativity, and create individual and group projects.
Alongside practical art activities, the course encourages communication, social interaction, problem-solving, and skills for independence in life, and work where appropriate. Activities are adapted to meet individual needs, ensuring all learners can participate, progress, and enjoy expressing themselves creatively in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The VTCT Entry 3 Introduction to Hair and Beauty is a nationally recognised vocational qualification designed to
provide a first step into the hair and beauty industry. It is awarded by VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) and
sits at Entry Level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.
The qualification is competency-based and focuses on developing basic practical skills alongside essential knowledge
of health, safety, and professional standards within a salon environment. Learners are assessed through practical
tasks, observations, and portfolio evidence rather than formal exams. Successful completion supports progression to
Level 1 Hair and Beauty qualifications or related vocational training.
After completing the VTCT Entry 3 Introduction to Hair and Beauty course, learners can progress to Level 1 Hair and Beauty qualifications, where they will develop more advanced practical skills and industry knowledge. This may include further study in hairdressing, beauty therapy, nail services, or make-up artistry. Learners could also move into apprenticeships within the hair and beauty sector, gaining hands-on workplace experience while continuing their training. With further progression, opportunities may lead to Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, employment in salons or spas, or self-employment within the beauty industry.
The VTCT Entry 3 Introduction to Hair and Beauty course provides learners with a foundation in the basic skills and
knowledge needed for the hair and beauty industry. It includes introductory hair care techniques such as shampooing
and basic styling, simple skincare and facial routines, basic nail care, and an introduction to make-up application.
Learners also study health and safety practices, personal presentation, and professionalism within a salon
environment. The course develops communication and customer service skills through practical, hands-on activities. It
is designed to build confidence and prepare learners for progression to Level 1 vocational hair and beauty
qualifications.
Assessment for the VTCT Entry 3 Introduction to Hair and Beauty is practical, ongoing, and portfolio-based. Learners
are assessed through observation of hands-on activities in a salon-style environment, where they demonstrate basic
skills in hair, beauty, and personal care treatments.
Evidence is collected in a portfolio, which may include assessor observations, written tasks, worksheets, and
photographic evidence of practical work. Learners must also show an understanding of health and safety and
professional behaviour. There are no formal written exams. Continuous feedback from tutors supports skill
development, builds confidence, and ensures learners meet the required standards for each unit.
The VTCT Entry 3 Introduction to Hair and Beauty course is designed for beginners. There are no formal qualifications
required.
Learners should have an interest in working in the hair and beauty industry and be willing to take part in practical,
hands-on activities in a salon-style environment. A short initial assessment will be used to ensure the course is
suitable for the learner’s current skills and level.
The course is ideal for young people or adults progressing from Entry Level study who are ready to build confidence,
develop basic vocational skills, and work safely with others; or for individuals who are new to the industry and need to
develop their understanding from the basics.
