For Lindsay, languages are about far more than vocabulary and grammar. They are a gateway to understanding different cultures, meeting new people, and seeing the world from new perspectives.
At Ludlow Sixth Form College, Lindsay teaches A Level French and Spanish, sharing with students a passion for languages that has shaped her life and career. After studying languages at University College London, she spent three years teaching English in rural schools on the subtropical Japanese islands of Okinawa as part of the prestigious Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme. The experience sparked a lifelong interest in international education and led her to complete a Master’s degree in TESOL before teaching and coordinating academic English language courses at both Newcastle University and King’s College London.
Lindsay’s own educational journey has taken her across the globe. Alongside studying French and Spanish at university, she also had the opportunity to begin learning Italian from scratch. Her year abroad included six months living in Siena, Italy, and helped deepen her appreciation for European literature, film, theatre and history. Later travels through South America, combined with her PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages, further strengthened her belief in the value of cultural understanding and communication.
When she’s not teaching, Lindsay loves travelling throughout France and Spain, discovering new places and enjoying international cinema. She also works closely with native-speaking French and Spanish Language Assistants, helping students build confidence in their speaking skills and bringing authentic cultural experiences into the classroom. Occasionally, that even means enjoying some of the finest French pastries South Shropshire has to offer!
Outside of languages, Lindsay has plenty of adventurous stories to tell. While living in Japan, she took up triathlons and completed the demanding Miyakojima Strongman Triathlon. These days, she still enjoys open-water swimming in the River Teme throughout the year and loves skiing whenever she gets the chance.
Fun fact: Lindsay is a proud Geordie! Her fascination with dialects and language variations often finds its way into the classroom, whether she’s exploring similarities between Geordie, Norwegian, Basque or even some of Europe’s oldest surviving languages.
