Kiera Watkins. Lower Sixth Student. Ludlow Sixth Form College.
Kiera joined LSFC in September 2024 to study A Level Biology, Psychology and Sociology and hopes to progress on to university to complete a BA in Primary Education. To support her application and gain an insight into primary education, Kiera successfully found a volunteering opportunity at Chirbury Primary School and has thoroughly enjoyed this valuable placement. Kiera has particularly enjoyed supporting pupils in reception and year one with guided reading activities, group reading and mathematics. Kiera says, ”This placement has been brilliant, I have developed communication skills, teamwork skills and gained experience of working with pupils of different ages. I plan to begin an EPQ in September related to Special Educational Needs.”
Not only has Kiera successfully managed to maintain excellent attendance for each of her A Level subjects and complete a volunteer placement, she has also found the time to raise £720, vastly exceeding her target of £150 for the charity FutureSense. Kiera is off to Thailand in June, with a group of 19 other students, to spend a week working with children in a school followed by a week working in an elephant nature park. What an amazing experience!
Kiera organised a hog roast in her local village of Chirbury; fifty residents came to support Kiera’s evening, hosted in the local café where Kiera works. Kiera took responsibility for marketing the evening, ticket sales and sourcing raffle prizes. Kiera says, ”This was a brilliant evening and raised so much more money than I hoped. I really feel this has increased my confidence, organisation, communication and leadership skills.”
Well done, Kiera! This is a fantastic achievement. We hope you have a brilliant time in Thailand!
