About the course

The Extended Project is based on either an extended essay or report of 5000 words, or an artefact supported by a shorter report. It will be undertaken on a topic of your own choosing, which may be linked to your A Level subjects, but will lead you to explore an area outside of them. Note that this course is normally started towards the end of your first year.

Note that the EPQ is worth 50% of the UCAS points of an A level.

Why choose us

Have significant input into the choice and design of an extended piece of work. Develop and apply decision-making skills, problem-solving skills, initiative and enterprise. Extend your planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills. Support your personal aspirations for higher education and career development.

What you could do next

The EPQ is designed to offer additional support for any university route. It will give you many essential skills for progression, including referencing techniques, critical analysis of resources, identification of fallacies in reasoning, presentation skills and organisational skills such as use of the Gantt chart. Many students study a topic that relates to their prospective university course and / or career. As such, the EPQ offers an excellent ability to further research those destinations.
