This is a combination course. It can be chosen alongside 2 other combination courses, you will study your choice of 3 courses over a 2 year period.
This Level 3 course develops your understanding of criminological theories, the criminal justice system, and the application of investigative techniques. You will explore the causes of crime, how crime is measured and reported, and how society responds to criminal behaviour. The course includes practical elements such as reviewing criminal cases, evaluating the effectiveness of crime prevention strategies, and understanding the role of forensic psychology.
Level 3 Applied Certificate in Criminology.
University degrees, including criminology, law, sociology, psychology, and policing. Employment options include: police officer, probation officer, criminal analyst, youth offending team member, and roles in the legal and justice sectors.
Introduction to criminology, understanding why not all crimes are reported and the role of the media in portraying crime.
Criminological theories.
You will learn about the personnel involved in investigations, as well as the Crown Prosecution Service and the courts.
Crime scene and punishment.
Assessment will be via a written exam and an internal assessment.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C), to include grade 4 (grade C) in English Language.
