A Level Geography, Biology and Spanish
I studied Geography, Biology and Spanish A Levels and Spanish GCSE at Ludlow College. I then went on to study BSc (Hons) Geography and Environmental Science with the University of Surrey at Roehampton Institute, Southlands College, specialising in Remote Sensing, GIS and Physical Geography.
My early career was in satellite navigation, where I worked for the companies developing the digital mapping behind what became SatNav and Google Maps. After having 2 children, I changed career, studied Level 3 Nail Tech at Herefordshire College and spent 5 years running my own award-winning manicure and pedicure business, selling organic nail care products online. The business won a SMARTA 100 award from Deborah Meaden in 2008.
I then went to work for a solar installers in 2010 as branch manager and managed the team that delivered the region’s largest co-operative community-funded solar installation (at the time) on Halo Leisure Centre in Leominster. I became self-employed again after redundancy, running my own business as a freelance marketing expert.
In 2013, I joined HLNSC as a part-time staff member teaching Marketing on a Level 5 Business Management Course. I then enrolled on the DET Post Graduate teacher training course and was awarded a graduate prize for HE. I began teaching BTEC Business L3 in 2013, began teaching A Level Geography after the sad loss of my own Geography teacher, John Lawson in 2016 and A Level Politics in 2023.
I volunteer as a water tester for Friends of the Wye. I am a keen kayak paddler and allotment vegetable grower. I am also an active member of the Geographical Association Post 16 FE/HE Committee and make regular contributions to GA publications and the annual Geographical Association conference.
