Precious Pets are a Kennel and Cattery based in the Forest of Dean and have 60 kennels and 18 catteries. They are family owned, with a small staff base. The company provides accommodation for dogs and cats whilst their owners are away, this could be for a weekend or for a 2 week holiday or longer. The kennels have been around for approximately 40 years and the current owners have been there for 7.5 years.
The role:
- Feed the dogs and cats according to their kennel notes
- Clean the kennels and catteries daily, including disposing of waste
- Walk the dogs – whatever the weather!
- Bath the dogs when needed
- Daily welfare checks on the pets in your care
- Administer medication when needed
Desired skills:
- Organisational skills
- Good communication skills
- Good time keeper
Desired personal qualities:
- Experience in working with animals
- Friendly
- Able to work well in a small team
Desired qualifications:
- Level 1 and/or level 2 Animal Care qualification
- GCSE grade 4/C in English and maths or equivalent
Future prospects?
- There may be the opportunity to become a full time, permanent member of the team upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.
Reality check:
- The company is remote and not on a bus route
- Weekend work is a must, usually every other weekend
- Lots of walking and you will be on your feet all day
- Working in all weathers
- There are a large number of kennels on site, with a variety of dogs, large and small, so the candidate needs to be happy working with a variety of dogs.
