Callum is a student at Walford College who joined the Supported Internship programme with the goal of working in retail or at a cinema.
Through his Supported Internship, Callum has built confidence, developed valuable workplace skills and taken positive steps towards achieving his career goals.
Developing retail skills at The Range
As part of his Supported Internship, Callum completed a work placement at The Range. He quickly settled into the team and became a valued member of staff.
With support from Enable’s Job Coaches, Callum learned his role and developed the skills needed to complete his tasks independently. He showed a strong understanding of his responsibilities and quickly became known as reliable, hardworking and eager to learn.
During his placement, Callum built positive relationships with his colleagues and grew in confidence. He became comfortable communicating with team members and was always willing to ask for help or clarification when needed. This helped him continue to learn and develop in the workplace.
Callum also gained experience across a range of departments within the store. This gave him a broader understanding of different products, stock management and retail processes.
He took great pride in his role, wearing his uniform with confidence and showing his commitment and enthusiasm every day.
Building independence through travel training
Callum’s Supported Internship has also helped him develop important life skills. Alongside his workplace experience, he successfully completed travel training.
He can now independently use public transport to travel into town and return home. This has been a significant achievement and has helped to increase his confidence and independence.
A positive experience at The Range
Callum’s experience demonstrates how a Supported Internship can help young people develop practical workplace skills, build confidence and take important steps towards greater independence and employment.
