Explore ideas and share your work in a friendly, supportive group, learning how to structure your stories, explore characters, and consider how published authors achieve specific effects.

Through practical activities, group discussion, and constructive feedback, you will learn techniques to improve your writing style, creativity, and self-expression. The course provides an inspiring environment where you can experiment with ideas, share your work, and develop your own unique voice as a writer. You will also explore ways to get your work published.

Life is busy and demanding, but this course has plenty of tips and tricks to help boost your writing-time and keep that creative momentum going.

The course is available at the Gateway Adult and Community Education Centre, Shrewsbury, or North Shropshire College, Oswestry.

Shrewsbury: Thursday, 7.00 – 8.30pm

Oswestry: Friday, 10.00 – 11.30am

This course is not accredited but you will receive a college certificate in recognition of your learning.

Assessment focuses on personal development, creativity, and the application of writing techniques rather than formal examinations. Learners will have opportunities to review and reflect on their work, demonstrating how their skills and confidence have developed throughout the course.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is open to adults aged 19+ who have an interest in creative

writing and a willingness to participate in group activities and independent writing tasks. Learners should have a

reasonable level of written English to enable them to engage with course materials and complete writing activities. A

commitment to regular attendance and active participation is essential to gain the maximum benefit from the course.
