Apprenticeships
The Dog Grooming Level 2 Apprenticeship teaches apprentices the key skills needed to work safely and confidently in a dog grooming setting. Apprentices will learn how to handle dogs correctly, carry out bathing and drying, and complete basic grooming tasks for different breeds and coat types. The course also covers dog health, welfare and behaviour, helping apprentices recognise common skin and coat conditions. Learners will develop good hygiene and cleaning practices, learn how to use grooming equipment safely, and support customer care and record keeping. These skills help prepare apprentices for employment within the dog grooming industry.
A certificate of completion from the Institute for Apprenticeships
Progress into employment as a dog grooming assistant or junior groomer, take on greater responsibility within a grooming salon, or move on to further training such as a Level 3 Dog Grooming qualification or a Level 3 Animal Care course. This apprenticeship also provides a strong foundation for future specialist skills and self-employment opportunities within the pet care industry.
The programme is delivered through workplace skills assessment as well as attendance of one day a week in college.
At the completion of all on programme learning, apprentices will complete and End Point Assessment and for this standard that will involve a Practical Skills Assessment with Questions
Suitable employment on or prior to starting the apprenticeship training programme.
An appropriate level of Maths and English (assessed prior to apprenticeship start)
Apprentices without English or maths (at Level 2 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 1 for a Level 2 Apprenticeship) must achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment).
We can support you to achieve the desired level of Maths and English, through functional skills taught sessions which are mandatory to attend as part of your programme (you cannot achieve your apprenticeship without the required level of maths and English).
