This apprenticeship will give you the skills and knowledge to maintain and support the daily running of a farm. No two days are the same! You will spend one day a week at Holme Lacy college and the rest of your time in the workplace supporting daily operations for farm enterprises, identifying animal and plant health and performance whilst carrying out routine farm tasks and assisting with record keeping. You will also be able to choose between two optional routes: livestock or crops – depending on your area of interest.

Progress onto a Level 3 course
An employee in this occupation will be responsible for carrying out routine work set by their supervisor, to the required business standards. This includes assisting with animal and plant health and nutrition, maintaining health and safety and biosecurity, operating farm vehicles and optimising the environmental impacts of animal and crop performance. Office work is minimal although basic daily record keeping will be required. Typical working hours will depend on farm type and labour structure. A farm worker will be expected to do long hours, only as permitted within UK employment law.
The programme is delivered through workplace skills assessment as well as attendance of one day a week in college.
At the completion of all on programme learning, apprentices will complete and End Point Assessment and for this standard that will involve a Multiple-Choice Test, Practical Skills Assessment with Questions and a Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence.
Suitable employment on or prior to starting the apprenticeship training programme.
An appropriate level of Maths and English (assessed prior to apprenticeship start)
Apprentices without English or maths (at Level 2 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 1 for a Level 2 Apprenticeship) must achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment).
We can support you to achieve the desired level of Maths and English, through functional skills taught sessions which are mandatory to attend as part of your programme (you cannot achieve your apprenticeship without the required level of maths and English).
