This one year programme is designed to prepare individuals to progress onto the specialist and competitive Farriery Apprenticeship with the Hereford School of Farriery at Holme Lacy College. Students will undertake both theory and practical lessons focused on forgework, and delivered in our farriery forge, as well as modules such as horse biology, welding and drawing. In addition, students will be expected to undertake a period of work experience with a qualified farriery, which will help reinforce awarness of farriery as a career, and support their progression onto the apprenticeship.
BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Blacksmithing/Farriery
Progression routes may include Level 3 Farriery Apprenticeship, or Level 3 Blacksmithing.

Assessment will be through a number of coursework assignments and set practical exercises.
A minimum of four GSCEs at grade 3, including English, maths and science.
This charge identified is applicable to learners aged 16-18 who qualify for funding. Learners aged 19+ will have to pay this charge and possibly tuition and exam fees.
