About the course

This course provides a coherent and engaging study of the Health and Social Care sector and offers two progression pathways to support students with different career and higher education goals.

The Extended Diploma pathway is designed for students wishing to progress onto a wide range of Health and Social Care related university courses, including nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, occupational therapy, social work and other allied health professions.

The 720 Diploma pathway, studied alongside Applied Psychology or A Level Sociology, supports progression into a variety of Health and Social Care, social sciences and related degree courses, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

Both pathways help students develop the knowledge, understanding and professional skills needed for further study or employment within the Health and Social Care sector.

What qualification will I gain?

We offer two pathways within Health and Social Care:

BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

Equivalent to three A Levels.

BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care

Equivalent to two A Levels and studied alongside either:

· Applied Psychology

· A Level Sociology

Studying the Diploma with an additional qualification allows students to increase their UCAS points and broaden their progression opportunities.

BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care

Students study units including Human Lifespan Development, Working in Health and Social Care, Anatomy and Physiology, and Assessing Childhood Development Needs. The course also includes work experience to support employability and university applications.

BTEC National Diploma (720) in Health and Social Care

Students study Human Lifespan Development, Working in Health and Social Care, and Nutritional Health. Alongside the Diploma, students also take either Applied Psychology or A Level Sociology.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include:

· External examinations

· Practical and placement-based assessment

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English language or completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above.

Students should also demonstrate good progress in English and Maths, including attendance at GCSE examinations where applicable.
