Inclusive Art is a welcoming and supportive course designed for adults with additional needs who wish to explore their creativity and develop artistic skills. Each session is designed to be welcoming and supportive, ensuring that all participants feel comfortable and valued. Where necessary adaptations are made to meet the needs of individuals with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities. Learners will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media, while working at their own pace. The course promotes self-expression, confidence, communication, and wellbeing through creative activities in a relaxed and inclusive environment.
With guidance from experienced tutors, learners will develop their skills, create individual artwork, and enjoy opportunities to share and celebrate their achievements with others.
The class runs at the Gateway Adult and Community Education Centre, Shrewsbury, every Friday morning from 10.00-12.00
This is a non-accredited course. Learners will receive feedback on their progress and have opportunities to celebrate
their achievements through completed artwork and personal development.
Progress to other creative arts, crafts, wellbeing, or supported learning courses, take part in community art projects,or continue developing your artistic skills through more advanced art and design programmes.
Learners will explore a range of creative arts and crafts activities designed to develop artistic skills, confidence, and
self-expression. The course may include drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, textiles, mixed media, and three-
dimensional artwork. Learners will experiment with different materials and techniques, develop their creativity, and
create individual and group projects.
Alongside practical art activities, the course encourages communication, social interaction, problem-solving, and skills
for independence in life, and work where appropriate. Activities are adapted to meet individual needs, ensuring all
learners can participate, progress, and enjoy expressing themselves creatively in a supportive and inclusive
environment.
This course does not lead to a formal qualification. Progress is assessed through ongoing tutor observation, learner
participation, practical artwork, discussions, and review of individuals against personal learning goals.
No previous art experience is required. The course is open to adults with additional learning needs who have aninterest in creativity and can participate safely and appropriately in a group learning environment. An initial discussionmay be arranged to ensure the course is suitable for individual needs and support requirements.
