With plenty of opportunities to practice and interact with others, this course offers a rewarding and inspiring journey into one of the world’s most expressive and celebrated languages.
Classes run at the Gateway Adult and Community Education Centre, Shrewsbury.
Beginners: Thursday – 13.30-15.00 This class is suitable for learners with little or no prior knowledge of Italian. You will learn essential vocabulary and simple grammar, develop basic speaking and listening skills, and gain confidence in using Italian in everyday situations Improvers: Thursday 9.30-11.00 Thursday 11.15-12.45 This class is suitable for learners who already have some basic knowledge of Italian and want to build on existing skills rather than start from scratch.
Intermediate: Wednesday 9.30-11.00 This class is suitable for learners who can already communicate confidently in a range of everyday situations and are ready to develop greater fluency, accuracy, and independence in the language.
Conversation: Wednesday 11.30-13.00 Wednesday 14.00-15.30 This class is suitable for learners who are confident in Italian speaking and listening and wish to develop their skills further in the context of wider Italian culture.
This is a non-accredited adult learning course and does not lead to a formal qualification. The focus is on developingpractical Italian language skills, increasing confidence in communication and enjoying the experience of learning anew language. Learners will receive regular guidance and feedback from their tutor and will have opportunities to
reflect on their progress throughout the course.
A college certificate will be issued to learners in recognition of the
knowledge and skills developed on this course.
After completing this course, you could progress to a higher-level Italian class to further develop your fluency,vocabulary and understanding of the language. You may also choose to join conversation groups, undertake
independent study, use language-learning apps or explore Italian literature, films and media to enhance your skills.

This course focuses on developing practical Italian language skills for everyday communication. Learners will buildconfidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing through a range of interactive activities, conversations and real-life scenarios.
Topics may include introducing yourself, travel, food and drink, shopping, directions, hobbies, family and social situations. Alongside language development, learners will explore Italian culture, traditions, customs and contemporary life, helping them understand how the language is used in context. The course also introduces key grammatical structures, pronunciation and useful vocabulary, enabling learners to communicate more effectively while enjoying a supportive and engaging learning experience.
As this is a non-accredited course, assessment is informal and designed to support learning, confidence and personalprogress. Tutors will monitor development through observation of class participation, speaking and listeningactivities, practical language tasks and group discussions. Learners will receive regular feedback on their use ofvocabulary, pronunciation and communication skills, helping them identify strengths and areas for improvement.
There are no formal entry requirements for this non-accredited Italian language course. Beginners are welcome and no previous knowledge of Italian is required. Learners with some prior experience may be able to join a more advanced group, depending on their level of confidence and language ability. A willingness to participate in speaking, listening and group activities will help you gain the most from the course. The course is suitable for adults who are interested in learning Italian for travel, personal enrichment, cultural interest or lifelong learning.
