The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is designed for adults who want to work, or are already working, in a school environment.
The course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to support children and young people’s learning, wellbeing, and development. Learners explore topics such as safeguarding, child development, behaviour management, equality and inclusion, communication, and supporting teaching and learning activities.
The qualification includes a school-based placement, allowing learners to apply their learning in a real educational setting. It provides a recognised route into teaching assistant roles and progression to higher-level education qualifications. Please be aware that students are responsible for sourcing their own placement in a school and this must be agreed prior to starting the course.
The course is taught at the Gateway Adult Education Centre in Shrewsbury and as North Shropshire College in Oswestry.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is a nationally recognised qualification for
those who wish to work in a school setting. It is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by NCFE CACHE, a leading provider
of education and childcare qualifications.
The qualification combines classroom learning with practical experience in a school environment, enabling learners to
develop the knowledge and skills required to support children and young people’s learning, development, and
wellbeing. It covers key areas such as safeguarding, communication, equality and inclusion, behaviour, and supporting
teaching activities.
Successful completion can lead to employment in school support roles or progression to a level 3 qualification in
Supporting Teaching and Learning.
After completing the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, learners can progress tothe a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, further enhancing their skills and responsibilitieswithin a school setting.
The qualification can lead directly to employment opportunities such as Teaching Assistant, Learning SupportAssistant, Classroom Assistant, or Special Educational Needs (SEND) Support Assistant. Learners may also choose toprogress into Early Years, Childcare, or Education-related apprenticeships. For those considering a longer-term career
in education, this course provides a strong foundation for further study and progression towards higher-levelqualifications and teacher training pathways.
The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning covers the knowledge and skills needed to

safeguarding and child protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and promoting positive
behaviour.
The course also develops skills in communication, teamwork, professional relationships, and supporting learning activities under the direction of teaching staff. A key element of the qualification is a school-based placement, where learners gain practical experience and apply their learning in a real educational setting. This combination of theory and practice prepares learners for employment in school support roles. Please be aware that students are responsible for sourcing their own placement in a school and this must be agreed prior to starting the course.
The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is assessed through a portfolio of evidencecompleted throughout the course. Assessment methods may include written assignments, reflective accounts,professional discussions, witness testimonies, and workplace evidence gathered during the required school
placement.
Learners are observed carrying out tasks in a real school environment to demonstrate their competence in supportingteaching and learning. There are no formal examinations. Tutors provide ongoing feedback and support, and allassessment is internally quality assured to ensure learners meet the standards required for the qualification.
To enrol on the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, learners should be aged 19+ and
have a genuine interest in working with children and young people in a school environment. It is recommended that
learners have English skills at Level 1 or above, as the course involves written coursework and professional
documentation.
A school placement is required for this qualification, typically involving regular voluntary or employed work in a
primary, secondary, or special school setting. Please be aware that students are responsible for sourcing their own
placement in a school and this must be agreed prior to starting the course.
Learners are required to complete an initial assessment and interview to ensure the course is appropriate for their
experience, skills, and career goals. A satisfactory DBS check is also required.
