Discover the creative art of macramé in this relaxing and practical adult learning course. Suitable for beginners and those with some crafting experience, the course introduces learners to traditional knotting techniques used to create decorative and functional handmade items such as wall hangings, plant holders and home accessories. Through step-by-step guidance, learners will develop confidence, creativity and practical textile skills in a supportive and welcoming environment. The course also promotes wellbeing, mindfulness and social connection while encouraging learners to explore personal design ideas and sustainable craft practices.
This course will take place at North Shropshire College in Oswestry.

This is a non-accredited course but you will receive a college certificate as evidence of your
participation and achievement.
After completing the macramé course, learners could progress to a range of further creative, wellbeing and
community learning opportunities. These may include:

· Crochet, knitting or embroidery courses · Arts and crafts workshops · Home décor or upcycling projects · Small business or craft enterprise courses · Community exhibitions or craft fairs · Volunteering or community arts activities Learners may also continue developing their skills independently as a creative hobby, supporting wellbeing, mindfulness and personal creativity while building confidence in handmade craft techniques and design.
This macramé course introduces learners to the core techniques and creative possibilities of decorative knotting and
textile craft. Learners will explore a range of basic and intermediate macramé knots, pattern construction and design
techniques while creating handmade items such as wall hangings, plant holders, keyrings or decorative accessories.
The course develops practical crafting skills, creativity and confidence through step-by-step demonstrations and
hands-on activities. Learners will also explore the use of different materials, tools and finishing techniques, alongside
colour and design choices. The programme encourages creativity, mindfulness and personal expression within a
supportive and enjoyable adult learning environment.
Assessment on the macramé course is informal, practical and designed to support adult learners in developing
confidence and creative skills. Ongoing feedback will support individual development throughout the course. Learners
may also reflect on their work, creative choices and skill development through informal review activities or personal
learning records. Assessment focuses on engagement, application of techniques, creativity and progression rather
than formal testing, helping learners build confidence and enjoy the learning process.
There are no formal entry requirements for the macramé course. The programme is suitable for adults of all abilities,
including complete beginners and those wishing to refresh or develop existing crafting skills. Learners should have an
interest in creative arts and be willing to participate in practical activities and group learning. Basic hand dexterity and the ability to follow simple instructions will support participation. All guidance and support will be provided by the
tutor throughout the course.
