About the course

This course is aimed at those who wish to learn more about the basics of digital photography. These skills and processes involve thinking about how digital photography works, both using phones and DLSR cameras. The course will explore the many ways in which the practice of photographs can be approached, investigated, edited and displayed in both historical and contemporary contexts.

Topics covered will include:

  • How to make digital photographs;

  • How to edit digital photographs;

  • How to make a series of digital photographs;

  • How to crop digital photographs;

  • How to distort digital photographs.

The tutor may organise some outdoor or night photography, plus sessions off site to local places of interest to provide further opportunities to build on your skills and to add to your portfolio.

The tutor, Gemma, is a British Artist, PhD candidate, Dementia Arts Practitioner, Youth Trustee for Meadow Arts and an Involving the Young People Collective Consultant for the Esmee Fairbairn Charity. Gemma holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from the Hereford College of Arts and a Masters Degree from the Birmingham School of Art, as part of Birmingham City University. Presently, she is studying part time a PhD in Dementia Studies with the Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester, United Kingdom.
