Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College (HLNSC) is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable transport in the education sector, thanks to a new partnership with student startup TurboZone, founded by two enterprising University of Exeter students.
Earlier this year, HLNSC worked with TurboZone to install 14 electric vehicle (EV) chargers across five campuses, including Herefordshire College, North Shropshire College, Holme Lacy, Walford College, and Ludlow Sixth Form College. This move marked a major step forward in our commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to a zero-carbon economy.
Until now, none of our campuses had EV charging facilities for general student/staff use, only to support our course provision. This new infrastructure will not only make it easier for staff, students and visitors to drive electric but will also play a key role in advancing our sustainability strategy and reducing our overall carbon footprint.
TurboZone, founded by Ruairi Duignan and Ammar El Beik, began as a University of Exeter startup project and has quickly gained traction across the education sector. Their model provides schools, colleges and universities with flexible EV charging solutions. Either through direct purchase or fully managed installations with no upfront costs.
This collaboration highlights HLNSC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation and partnership. By working with forward-thinking startups like TurboZone, the College continues to create practical pathways for a cleaner, more connected future. This is not just for our students, but for the communities we serve across Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire.
