Services for Independent Living (SIL)

Local healthcare partnership supports future health professionals

Herefordshire College is pleased to announce its partnership with Services for Independent Living (SIL) through the College’s Patron Scheme for the 2026/27 academic year.

Working closely with industry partners is a key part of ensuring students develop the skills, knowledge and professional behaviours needed to succeed in the health sector.  SIL will support our learners through a programme of activities designed to enrich learning and strengthen links between education and industry.

The collaboration will see SIL deliver guest speaker sessions, curriculum development support, mock interviews and industry placement opportunities, providing students with direct access to employer expertise and real world insight throughout their studies.

Alongside these activities, SIL will continue to provide industry placement opportunities for T Level students throughout the year. These placements offer learners the chance to gain hands on experience in a professional environment, develop workplace skills and apply their knowledge in real life settings.

Gaynor Corrick, the college’s curriculum team leader for Health, said “Strong employer partnerships are essential in helping us deliver industry relevant education and prepare students for successful careers. We are delighted to continue working together through our Patron Scheme and are grateful for the ongoing commitment to supporting our students, staff and curriculum. The insight and opportunities provided make a real difference to our learners’ aspirations, confidence and future career prospects“.

Lisa Bradley, Registered Manager at SIL added: “We have been fortunate in working with the college over several years and being able to offer placements to their students. The skills the young people are bringing to the workplace are due to the excellent tutoring they are receiving at the college. We are able to build on these skills with on-the-job, paid work experience, giving the students a genuine insight into the profession.

“We are delighted to have this opportunity to work in partnership with the college as a Patron and look forward to welcoming many more students to SIL”.

The partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to developing the next generation of health professionals while ensuring education remains closely connected to the needs of employers and the Herefordshire communities they serve.

Through the patron scheme, Herefordshire College partners with employers who are committed to investing in skills development and supporting the local workforce of the future. These collaborations ensure our students benefit from industry informed education, while employers help shape the talent pipeline for their sectors.

Organisations interested in joining the patron scheme and making a positive impact on learners across Herefordshire Ludlow and North Shropshire are encouraged to contact the college at [email protected]
