Savoy Trust Investment Enhances Hospitality Training at Herefordshire College

Hospitality and catering students at Herefordshire College are benefitting from a significant investment in new equipment and crockery, thanks to the continued support of The Savoy Trust.

The funding has enabled the College to update dated crockery and purchase vital, industry-standard equipment for both the training kitchen and front-of-house areas. This latest project builds on The Savoy Trust’s previous support, which transformed the College’s training restaurant in 2021, and further enhances the student learning experience by providing facilities that closely reflect professional hospitality environments.

The upgraded resources are already having a positive impact across all levels of study, helping students develop practical skills, confidence and professionalism in surroundings that mirror industry expectations.

Hospitality and Catering Tutor Sophie Roberts said:

“After The Savoy Trust transformed our training restaurant in 2021, this latest investment has allowed us to continue developing our provision and meeting the needs of our ever-expanding department. With upgraded, industry-standard facilities both front-of-house and in the kitchen, our students are gaining the skills and confidence they need for successful futures in the catering and hospitality sector. We are incredibly grateful to have been supported by The Savoy Trust not just once, but twice.”

Students across the department have also welcomed the improvements. Charlie, a Level 1 Catering student, commented:

“With the refurbished restaurant and all the new kitchen equipment, everything feels so professional. It’s like learning in a real restaurant.”

Level 2 student Cerys highlighted the impact of the new barista equipment, adding:

“The restaurant already looked incredible after the renovation, and now having a new coffee machine and grinder makes our barista training feel even more realistic.”

Meanwhile, Harvey, a Level 3 part-time student, explained how the advanced equipment is supporting higher-level learning:

“At Level 3, we’re learning more complex methods, so having equipment like the blast chiller and vacuum pack machine has opened up opportunities to develop some skills we couldn’t before. We are very lucky to have such high-tech equipment at college.”

The College is proud to work in partnership with The Savoy Trust to support the next generation of hospitality professionals and ensure students are well prepared for careers in the catering and hospitality industry.
