Kings Pitts Equestrian is an equine retirement/ full and assisted livery yard, established 7 years ago. They pride themselves on their standards of equine care and management and have 40 horses altogether, including full grass livery, a small amount of DIY and Full and retirement liveries.

There’s never a dull day at Kings Pitts Equestrian, they often have visits from professionals, so this gives an ideal opportunity to see and learn things. Questions are always welcome, it’s the best way to learn after all!

You will be supported by the yard owner and yard manager who both have vast experience in the equine industry and both love to learn. They often, along with their liveries, attend courses or client evenings provided by their vet practise to further their knowledge, so you’d also be welcome to join those.

The role:

  • General yard duties including mucking out, feeding and handling horses
  • Daily feed stock checks
  • Grooming and bathing horses
  • Field maintenance- fence checks, paddock sweeping etc.
  • Assist with professional visits- Vets, physio, farrier, weigh bridge etc.

Desired skills:

  • Good communication skills
  • Some equine experience and knowledge

Desired personal qualities:

  • Hard working
  • Passion for horses
  • Sense of humour

Desired qualifications:

  • GCSE English and maths at grade 1 or above

Future prospects?

  • There may be the potential to be offered more hours after the apprenticeship

Reality check:

  • There are long periods on your feet, but you will get ample time for rest
  • You will be expected to work on weekends, but this will be arranged on a rota basis
  • For those who do not drive, the bus stop isn’t too far from the yard.
