Brickwork Student Rises to National Top 8 at SkillBuild 2025 Final

Herefordshire College is proud to celebrate the impressive achievement of Keaton Brocklesby, a talented Brickwork student who has placed in the top eight nationally at the SkillBuild 2025 competition.

Keaton, who was a Level 2 Brickwork Diploma student at the time of the competition and is now back at College working towards his Level 3, demonstrated outstanding skill and determination throughout this year’s SkillBuild journey.

SkillBuild is the UK’s largest multi-trade construction skills competition, organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The competition challenges apprentices and trainees from across the country to complete demanding practical tasks relevant to their trade, testing technical ability, time management and problem-solving under pressure.

To earn his place on the national stage, Keaton first competed at the regional qualifiers held at Dudley College. There, he stood out from around 50 other entrants to take 1st place, securing a high-scoring position among all regional competitors. With roughly 400–450 entrants across the UK taking part each year, progressing to the next stage is a major accomplishment.

The SkillBuild National Final took place at Arena MK in Milton Keynes on 19–20 November 2025, bringing together the UK’s top construction talent. Over three days, finalists completed a series of practical tasks under the scrutiny of industry judges and in front of visiting spectators.

In the bricklaying category, competitors were required to demonstrate a range of technical skills, including interpreting project drawings on the day, setting out accurately, working to strict dimensional and safety standards, and producing high-quality brickwork within tight time constraints.

Keaton’s performance at the National Final earned him a top-eight national placement, a testament to his dedication, craftsmanship and the high standard of training he has received at College.

Everyone at Herefordshire College is incredibly proud of Keaton’s achievement.
