Herefordshire College’s Digital Skills Bootcamp ran for two weeks this July and welcomed over 10 motivated participants from the Herefordshire Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The bootcamp offered a hands-on introduction to the IT industry, including an introduction to cyber security, networking basics, networking devices and initial configuration and networking support and security.
Lewis Campbell, the course tutor, shared, “It was fantastic to see learners grow in confidence and develop real digital skills over the two weeks. Their enthusiasm and curiosity, especially during the employer session, was truly inspiring”.
Participants explored a wide range of engaging modules, supported by tuition and real-world insights from a local digital employer. Learners shared:
“The modules we learned were really good and informative”
“Lewis (the course tutor) was great”
“The talk from the employer was good and we asked lots of questions about working in digital”
“The course was exactly what I wanted”
“I look forward to returning in September to study”
Several learners have now applied to progress into higher-level study, including the college’s Level 4 Cyber Security course, and all are waiting to hear outcomes following their guaranteed interviews that took place with employers.
Tim Betambeau from the Department for Work and Pensions Employment Team shared, “We’re happy to support Skills Bootcamps like this that give people practical skills and clear pathways into employment or further study”.
