Ellie Chowns tries out blacksmithing at Holme Lacy College

Last Friday, we were honoured to be able to show Ellie Chowns, the Green Party MP for North Herefordshire, around our prestigious blacksmithing forge and facilities at Holme Lacy College. Being home to the National School of Blacksmithing, it is a traditional craft that the tutors and students feel passionate about and this shows throughout their work. Adam Greenwell and Josh Masey, blacksmithing tutors, recently won a competition at the British Farriers and Blacksmith Team Competition at Stoneleigh Park forging a ‘swingle tree’. Additionally, a group of students travelled to Denmark to forge a full-scale replica of the Ladby anchor, a type-2 Viking-age anchor, alongside 12 metres of chain.

With blacksmithing being such an integral part of the college and such a highly valued craft amongst the Holme Lacy community, it was great to be able to show Ellie Chowns the art, and for her to see the amazing facilities that our students are able to learn in.

Thank you Ellie Chowns for coming to visit!
