Herefordshire College student Harry Jones is also a dedicated member of the Sea Cadets and has proudly served as the Lord-Lieutenant Cadet of Herefordshire since his appointment in April 2024. His year-long tenure is set to conclude on April 10, 2025, marking a significant period of engagement with both civic and military events under the guidance of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr. Edward Harley, CBE.
Throughout his tenure, Harry has participated in numerous prestigious events that highlight the importance of service and community in Herefordshire. Among the most memorable occasions were the D-Day Celebrations held on June 6, 2024, where he had the privilege of meeting two D-Day veterans, alongside various senior military officials. Additionally, he was actively involved in Armed Forces Day, the 84th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain, and the Royal visit by The Duke of Edinburgh to Home Lacy College. Harry also took part in the Dedication of the 22 SAS Association and British Empire Medal presentations, each event a testament to the rich history and dedication of those who serve.
Reflecting on his experience, Harry expressed, “Being a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet has been the greatest honour and privilege. I have engaged in conversation with royalty, senior military officials, veterans, and peers, all of whom have interesting stories to tell. On every occasion, my uniform and boots had to be immaculate; you have to prepare for the conversations with the people that you meet.”
Harry’s journey with the Sea Cadets began at the age of 10, and he recently transitioned out of the organisation upon turning 18. He credited the Sea Cadets with fostering discipline, respect, and a sense of adventure. “Being part of a uniformed organisation has given me a host of adventures, including offshore yacht sailing, which has been incredibly rewarding.”
As he prepares to pass the baton to the next cadet, Harry hopes to inspire younger members of the Sea Cadets to continue pursuing opportunities for service and leadership. His dedication and commitment to representing Herefordshire will certainly leave a lasting impact on the community.
As his tenure comes to an end, the community celebrates Harry’s contributions and looks forward to the next chapter in his life, confident that he will carry the values instilled in him by the Sea Cadets into all his future endeavours.
