About the course

This occupation is found in the built environment including in the new build, refurbishment and heritage sectors. The broad purpose of the occupation is to lay bricks, brick specials, blocks and other materials to construct and repair complex walls and features such as chimneys, battered, angled, radial and decorative masonry work. Daily tasks involve apprentices interacting with team members and site managers in all aspects of the construction program, including planning, technical expertise and project progress.

Assessments Include: Practical test lasting 2 days, Knowledge test and an end assessment interview

Entry requirements

• Suitable employment on or prior to starting the apprenticeship training programme.

• An appropriate level of maths and English (assessed prior to apprenticeship start)

• Apprentices without English or maths (at Level 2 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 1 for a Level 2 Apprenticeship) must achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment).

• We can support you to achieve the desired level of maths and English, through functional skills taught sessions which are mandatory to attend as part of your programme (you cannot achieve your apprenticeship without the required level of maths and English).
