About the course

In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, enjoy the calm of a morning of drawing and painting. We will explore a variety of media, techniques and subject matter, giving you the opportunity to develop your own style. 

Over the year we’ll be using a broad range of media, this half term we will start by drawing a seascape with pastels, then progress to painting flowers and shells using watercolours and ink, learners need to bring their own materials. They are taught sessions but if anyone prefers to work on their own paintings in a session that’s fine. We have a short coffee break in the middle of the sessions if you wish. 

Level: Whether you are new to art or have been drawing and painting for some time, all are welcome.

What you could do next

Each half term will be a 5 -week course using a variety of subject matter and media; drawing watercolours, acrylics, pastels.  An art group for your enjoyment. 

Popular modules

By the end of the course you can expect to be able to do the following 

  • Use pastels to paint a seascape 

  • Paint flowers using watercolours 

  • Use ink to paint shells 

  • Experiment with salt in a watercolour painting 

Key facts

You will need:

First session – soft pastels and pastel paper. Watercolour paints, brushes and watercolour paper for later sessions, Quink ink and salt. If you’re buying these and are in any doubt, the tutor can advise what you need. A drawing board and folder for storing artwork may be useful as you progress.

Handouts will be provided as necessary. Pastel and watercolour paper will be available for you to buy if you’d like single sheets.

Liz Doody is a professional Graphic Designer and illustrator who has been teaching Art and IT subjects for many years.
