Equine Management second-year level 3 students recently organised and hosted three external competitions at The Walford Equestrian Centre. There were two show jumping competitions and a dressage competition.
Students were split into three groups and spent months planning and organising their competitions. They had to plan each one right from the start, deciding on businesses to contact for support, how and where to advertise and the best way of booking entries. They were overwhelmed with the response that they received. A big thank you to everyone who offered to support them with the shows and donating prizes.Before the events, the students created plans to ensure the smooth running of the day which included allocating start times for competitors and accommodating individual requests from riders.
The show jumping courses were designed by the students and tested by them, jumping on the college horses. This allowed them to experience how their lines and turns rode, and make amendments as and when required. They then built their courses on their show day. Each member of the group had jobs for the day so that they could ensure their competitions ran as smoothly as possible. These shows were completely student-planned, organised and run.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our competitors who have shown such great support for these shows, they have given fantastic feedback to and about the students. It has been a great couple of weeks and can’t wait to welcome you all back for future shows. The students have gained so much experience from running these events and they have given them new skills.
