About the course

Lead Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives. In addition, Lead Adult Care Workers have responsibility for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgement and accountability.

What qualification will I gain?

  • A certificate of completion from the Institute for Apprenticeships.

  • Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (Lead).

Key facts

Lead Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. As well as covering Lead Adult Care Workers this standard also covers Lead Personal Assistants who can work at this senior level but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services, usually within their own home.

Assessment methods

  • The programme is a mixture of classroom knowledge delivery and workplace skills assessment.

  • At the completion of all on programme learning all apprentices will complete and End Point Assessment and for this standard that will involve a Situational Judgment Test and a Professional Discussion.

  • You will also be expected to have achieved the 15 standards set out in the Care Certificate.

  • You must also complete a self-assessment exercise prior to entry to your End Point Assessment.

  • You will also be expected to collate testimonies from people who use services in the last 3 months of your on programme learning.

Entry requirements

  • Suitable employment on or prior to starting the apprenticeship training programme.

  • An appropriate level of maths and English (assessed prior to apprenticeship start)

  • Apprentices without English or maths (at Level 2 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 1 for a Level 2 Apprenticeship) must achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment).

  • We can support you to achieve the desired level of maths and English, through functional skills taught sessions which are mandatory to attend as part of your programme (you cannot achieve your apprenticeship without the required level of maths and English).
