About the course

This course covers all the the legislative and safety regulations relating to the safe operation of pedestrian hand held applicators fitted with hydraulic nozzles or rotary atomisers to apply pesticides to land.

If your job involves applying pesticides in a commercial role then you are legally required by the Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations (2012) to take this qualification. This qualification is designed specifically for those who wish to apply pesticides using various types of handheld applicators.

What do I need to bring with me?

Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. All PPE used must comply with relevant AFAG guidance, industry good practice, Health and Safety Executive publications and current legal requirements in terms of specification and use. This is:

  • Face mask. Wear facial protection and always wear goggles.

  • Hearing protection. Wear personal hearing protection, such as ear defenders.

  • Gloves. Heavy-duty gloves, preferably made of leather.

  • Leg protection. Tight-fitting clothing.

  • Safety boots or sturdy shoes with non-slip soles.

Assessment methods

Practical assessment with oral questioning by a City & Guilds NPTC approved Assessor. The Assessor can be the same individual who carried out the training or could be a different person.

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold the safe use and application of pesticides PA1.
