For Gabby, starting college was a big step. Originally home educated and joining Walford College later in the academic year, she began her journey as a Level 2 Agriculture student in 2024.
Since then, Gabby has gone from strength to strength, progressing from Level 2 to Level 3 Agriculture and being named Level 3 Agriculture Student of the Year 2025.
Now, Gabby has taken another exciting step forward by progressing onto the T Level in Agriculture, building on the skills and experience she has developed throughout her time at Walford.
Gabby’s journey has been about much more than achieving qualifications. She has worked hard to build her confidence, develop practical skills and gain valuable industry experience. During her time at Walford, she completed a work placement at Normanton Farm, a dairy farm, which has since led to her securing a part-time job there.
Her academic achievements have also continued to grow. Alongside her agriculture studies, Gabby successfully achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English, demonstrating her determination to overcome challenges and continue progressing.
Her tutor, Fflur, has seen Gabby’s development first-hand and is incredibly proud of how far she has come.
“Gabby’s journey is a fantastic example of what can happen when you find the right environment and believe in your own abilities. She has worked incredibly hard to develop both academically and practically, and seeing her progress from Level 2 to becoming Level 3 Agriculture Student of the Year, securing employment from her work placement and now progressing onto a T Level has been fantastic. She should be incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.”
For Gabby, progressing onto the T Level is the next chapter in a journey that has already seen her overcome challenges and achieve things she may once have thought were out of reach.
“When I first came to Walford, I was joining later in the academic year and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve come a long way since starting Level 2, and I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved. Getting Student of the Year was a really special moment for me, and getting my part-time job through my work placement has shown me that the hard work is paying off. I’m excited to continue learning and see where my T Level takes me.”
Gabby’s story highlights the opportunities available to students who are willing to work hard, develop their skills and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
From joining Walford as a late starter to becoming an award-winning agriculture student, gaining valuable industry experience and progressing onto a T Level, Gabby is continuing to build a strong foundation for her future career in agriculture.
