Are you an enthusiastic writer keen to take your skills to the next level? Do you want to write a novel or get serious about perfecting and publishing your short stories?

During this course you will explore plotting, descriptive writing, narrative structure, genre, writing techniques and character creation in detail. You will consolidate, extend on, and challenge what you have already learned about creative writing…

Materials – Notebook or writing paper (laptops are fine too but some exercises will require paper and pen)

During this course you will:

  • Create in-depth characters that engage your reader

  • Use story structure to advance and develop plot

  • Practise crafting the kind of prose that captivates readers

  • Develop your writing techniques

  • Explore genre conventions and literary forms

  • Utilise language, imagery and symbolism

This course is designed to follow on from the Introduction to Creative Writing, though it is also open to people who already have some experience.

Dr Richard Wood is an author and academic in the field of Creative Writing. He has written over forty books and has maintained a successful career writing and marketing his own novels. His qualifications include BA Scriptwriting, MA Creative Writing and PhD Literary and Critical Studies. He has also taught Creative Writing to MA level as well as supervising students completing their MA thesis.
