Students Return from Life-Changing Nepal Experience

Students from Herefordshire College (Faculty of Technology Studies) and Holme Lacy College have recently returned from an unforgettable educational visit to Nepal, made possible through the support of the Turing Scheme.

This incredible international opportunity enabled students to immerse themselves in a rich and diverse culture, while developing valuable personal and professional skills that will stay with them for years to come.

During their time in Nepal, students experienced a wide range of activities that blended cultural exploration, environmental responsibility, and meaningful community engagement. Highlights included visiting the awe-inspiring Boudhanath Stupa, which is one of the largest and most significant Buddhist monuments in the world, and exploring the iconic Monkey Temple in Kathmandu.

Students embraced traditional Nepali culture by wearing authentic dress, including Daura Suruwal and Haku Patasi, and gained hands-on experience through activities such as pottery making and cooking traditional momo. They also explored the historic city of Bhaktapur, taking in its unique architecture, vibrant streets, and stunning views of the Himalayas.

A key focus of the trip was giving back to the local community and environment. Students took part in litter picking and tree planting initiatives, as well as spending time in a local school, supporting teacher training and working directly with children. These experiences provided a powerful insight into global communities and the importance of collaboration and cultural understanding.

Alongside the busy programme, students also took time to reflect and recharge, with activities such as yoga helping to support their wellbeing throughout the trip.

This visit to Nepal has provided students with invaluable international exposure, helping to broaden horizons, build confidence, and create lasting memories and friendships.
