A National Curriculum Training Programme (NPTC)-certified course for the Forestry Industry
NPTC Award in Felling and Processing Trees Over 380mm Diameter
Learners progress onto Award in Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees. This course is not run on a regular basis at the College, but can be arranged for groups of up to four people.
Risk assessment and emergency procedures
Felling techniques of trees between 380-760mm diameter
Take down of hung up trees by hand and mechanical winches
Delimbing and snedding techniques
Cross-cutting and conversion

Unlike other chainsaw certificates there is no independent assessment. Learners will be assessed at various intervals by the trainer for the NPTC Award in Felling and Processing Trees Over 380mm Diameter. This is a practical assessment with some verbal questioning.
Candidates must have achieved the Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting, and Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm.
