About the course

This apprenticeship develops advanced plumbing and heating skills with a strong focus on environmental and renewable technologies. Apprentices will learn how to install, test, maintain and commission hot and cold water systems, sanitation and heating systems, with significant coverage of air source heat pump technology. The programme explores the principles of ASHP operation, system design considerations, efficiency, fault-finding and performance optimisation. Assessment methods

The programme is delivered through a combination of workplace assessment and one day per week attendance at college. Apprentices are assessed on their practical competence, technical knowledge and professional behaviours throughout the programme. At the end of the apprenticeship, learners will complete an End Point Assessment which includes practical assessments and professional discussions aligned with industry requirements.

Entry requirements

  • Suitable employment on or prior to starting the apprenticeship training programme.

  • An appropriate level of Maths and English (assessed prior to apprenticeship start)

  • Apprentices without English or maths (at Level 2 for a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 1 for a Level 2 Apprenticeship) must achieve this prior to taking the End Point Assessment.

  • We can support you to achieve the desired level of Maths and English, through functional skills taught sessions which are mandatory to attend as part of your programme (you cannot achieve your apprenticeship without the required level of maths and English).GCSE Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in English and maths.
