Public Services student Jake Brown going on a trip to Canada

Jake Brown WINS Trip to Canada

Level 3 Public Services student Jake Brown has secured a once-in-a-lifetime cadet trip to Canada. For less than the price of a meal deal!

About the competition

20 people out of 3000 UK competition entries have been selected for this opportunity. Jake is the only cadet from Hereford and Worcester ACF to be recommended. The initial selection process saw 350 candidates shortlisted. The weekend of June 1st to 3rd the final 60 cadets attended Capel Curig for a selection weekend. From that 60 the final 20 cadets were chosen to go to Canada.

Canadians have many summer cadet camps concentrating on many areas from sports to music but adventurous training often fits into their cadet ethos extremely well. The Rocky Mountain Cadet Training Centre is known as the pinnacle. It takes only the most senior and capable cadets and delivers their leadership training in wilderness conditions.

What the trip will involve

Whilst in Canada, Jake will be doing the Expedition Team Leader Course. He will be immersed in Canadian culture and then split into groups amongst the Canadian cadets. He will then be trained in many areas of expeditions and adventurous training, before being assessed and given a leadership role.

Following thorough training on expedition preparation, first aid and other chosen disciplines, the cadets will take part in back-to-back expeditions covering Canoeing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Community engagement.

Along with this course, the cadets will also partake in cultural trips and visits. These are still to be confirmed but will certainly involve Calgary and Banff.

They will be located in the Rockies, and the closest town is 45 minutes away.

Jake will leave Sandhurst on Friday 12th July and will return to the UK mid-August.

Safe travels Jake, have an amazing time and make special memories!

Congratulations on this fantastic achievement.
