Student Spotlight: A Level Geography, French and Environmental Science – Eva

Eva is currently studying Geography, French, and Environmental Science. Eva thrives in the college’s community-focused, supportive environment, where she has developed academically, personally, and socially.

Eva appreciates the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Ludlow College. “I really like how everyone is happy to help, you get to know your teachers and classmates on a personal level. It’s really helpful during exam season, especially when we’re helping each other with revision,” she explains.

She also values the high level of support in her subjects, particularly French. “We have a native French speaker who helps us practice for our speaking exams every week. It’s great to get that extra support.”

Eva’s passion lies in environmental conservation, with a goal of working in sustainable agriculture. She hopes to study at Bangor University and is excited about the opportunities ahead. “I’d like to be an environmental consultant for sustainable agriculture, or work as an estate manager for a regenerative agriculture project or rewilding initiative,” she shares. Her interest stems from growing up in a rural area and a family background connected to estate management, giving her a strong sense of connection to the land.

The college has played an important role in helping Eva navigate her university plans. “We’ve had university and career fairs, talks on student finance, and guidance on UCAS. The staff have been really supportive throughout the process.”

Personal Growth

Since joining Ludlow College, Eva has grown in confidence and independence. She has embraced opportunities like being a student ambassador, speaking to parents during open evenings, and giving advice to prospective students. “I’ve really developed personally and professionally. College has given me the confidence to talk to new people and share my experiences,” she says.

Outside of the classroom, Eva has enjoyed enrichment activities and field trips that enhance her learning. Highlights include:

Netball – Eva has enjoyed being part of the college team, meeting students across year groups, and participating in tournaments.

Geography Trips – Residential trips to Snowdonia for glaciation studies.

Environmental Science Fieldwork – Visits to Chester Zoo, local farms, and river kick sampling.

“These trips make learning much more engaging. It’s a chance to experience our subjects in the real world rather than just in a classroom,” Eva explains.

Eva encourages younger students to explore all their options:

“Visit colleges near you and try as many different subjects as possible. You might be surprised by what you enjoy. Even subjects that seem unrelated, like French and Geography, can complement each other in interesting ways.”

Eva is particularly proud of her academic development and exam progress. “Watching everything we learned in year one come together, and seeing how to reach top marks, has been really satisfying. It’s also great to see connections across my subjects, it makes learning more interesting and synoptic.”

Eva’s time at Ludlow College has provided a strong foundation for her academic and personal growth. With her confidence, passion for sustainability, and clear sense of direction, she is ready to take the next step toward university and a career in environmental conservation.
